Bellwood-Antis scored single runs in the first and fourth to take a 2-0 advantage on Monday afternoon against Bishop Guilfoyle. In the game played at Vets Field, the Marauders use Vets as their home field, BG scored in only two innings.
Bishop Guilfoyle took the utmost advantage in those two frames however to score six times in the bottom of the fourth to wipe out the early Blue Devil lead and then after Bellwood-Antis scored in the fifth, BG put seven markers on the scoreboard in the sixth inning to end the game via the 10-run Mercy Rule 13-3. The win improves their record to 3-2, while the Blue Devils drop to 2-5.
Josh Kleinfelter helped the B-A boys off to a good start walking to open the ballgame. Kleinfelter moved to second on a groundout by Andy Brisbin. Chris Alley reached on an error to put runners at the corners. Bellwood-Antis worked a successful double steal with Kleinfelter scoring and Alley scooting into second base.
In the top of the fourth, Tyler McClellan began the inning with a single up the middle. Adam DeArmitt bunted Tyler to second base. Kyle Drost blooped a base hit that fell in between the first baseman, second baseman and right fielder sending McClellan to third, but when he attempted to run the hit into a double, Drost was thrown out at second base for the second out of the inning. Brian Hostler delivered a clutch single to left to drive in McClellan with the second run of the game.
Trailing 2-0, BG batted around, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six in their half of the fourth. Only the first two runs were earned because of three B-A errors and those two reached base as a result of a walk and hit batsman.
Two innings later, in the sixth inning, Bishop Guilfoyle batted around again to end the game. Seven runs crossed the plate this time on three hits, two Bellwood-Antis errors, three walks and three more hit batsmen.
Travis Gibbons had three hits and Anthony Williams two to lead BG. Brent Milliron went the distance for the win for the Marauders striking out five and walking three.
