The Tyrone Band Booster Organization will be holding a special benefit dance and ticket auction tomorrow night from 8 – 12 p.m. to help raise funds to send the members of the Tyrone band program to Sandusky and Cleveland, Ohio this May.
The dance/auction will be held at the Tyrone American Legion, with doors opening at 8 p.m. to view and bid on the auction items, and music will be provided by DJ Sky Blue Caddy starting at 9 p.m.
“There is quite a selection of items to auction off, ranging from gift certificates up to a trip for two to Atlantic City. We are so thankful of the many local businesses that have come forward and donated items to help make this fundraiser a success,” said TASD band director, Kris Laird. “Now all we need are members of the community that are ready for a fun evening.”
Tickets for the auction items will be on sale at the event, and the items will be given away each half hour beginning at 9:30 p.m.
The list of items include: gift certificates from Sheetz, Bi-Lo, Giant/Martins, Wal-Mart, American Ale House, Allen Street Grill, Huntingdon OIP, Walk’s Photography and Cowfer’s Custom Design.
Also gift baskets/bags from Curves, Home Interior, Scents of Life, Joybeans, Alice’s Garden, Home & Garden and Gardner’s Candy.
Other items include: a fishing pole and tackle set from Bressler’s, a jigsaw from Ace Hardware, 17 inch color monitor from Reclamare, four tickets to an Altoona Curve game and Curve memorabilia, a trip for two to Atlantic City and more.
Admission is $5 per person at the door and individuals must be 21 years or older to enter. Food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
“Come out, have a good time, and help support the youth of our school and community,” added Laird.
The dance/auction is helping to raise funds so that the group may leave on Friday, May 27 and travel to Sandusky, Ohio. On Saturday, May 28 the high school concert band and jazz bands will perform for a panel of adjudicators who will evaluate them and offer tips for improvement.
Students will spend the remainder of the day enjoying Cedar Point Amusement Park, and an awards ceremony for all performing groups will be held in the park that evening.
The next stop on the trip will be Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday, May 29, where the students will get an educational tour of the Great Lakes Science Center and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
The Tyrone marching band will offer a performance of “Movin’ Out”, their 2004-05 field show, featuring the music of Billy Joel. After a dinner at the Cleveland Hard Rock Café, the band members will depart Cleveland to return home.
