The Tyrone Area High School Key Club is hosting members of the AFC Central Division champion Pittsburgh Steelers basketball team at the Tyrone Area High School gymnasium on Saturday, April 2 for a charity game to benefit the Tyrone Area YMCA.
However, unlike the New England Patriots, who have had the Steelers’ number in AFC championship games, Pittsburgh’s basketball club will face a much less fortunate opponent in the Tyrone No-Stars, a group of Tyrone area business leaders who are winless in all previous tries against the Steelers.
The game is scheduled to tip at approximately 8 p.m.
“This is a fun night and we’re hoping for a lot of community support,” said Key Club advisor Luke Rhoades. “The Steelers’ all-star basketball game has become a tradition for the residents of Tyrone, and the Tyrone Key Club is proud to keep it alive, with proceeds benefiting the community.”
Steeler players will be available for autographs at halftime, and fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win prizes in two different shooting contests. Tri-Star Motors of Tyrone is sponsoring a game to win a 2005 Ford Focus, while DelGrosso’s Amusement Park is sponsoring a second contest for the chance to win $15,000.
Antwaan Randle-El, Kendrell Bell, Joey Porter, Hines Ward, Clark Haggans, DeShea Townsend, Ike Taylor, Chris Hoke and Matt Cushing are just a small group of the players who may be in attendance.
The annual alumni game between graduates of Tyrone and Bellwood-Antis High schools will tip off as the preliminary game at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at several area businesses, including Giant Eagle of Altoona, Shoe Fly/New Balance of Altoona, G & P Dollar Stretcher of Tyrone and the Hollidaysburg YMCA. Tickets will also be available at the door, or by calling 684-4240, ext. 3223.
Any business interested in advertising in the event program can do so by calling 684-4240, ext. 3207.
