More than a month after it happened, Tyrone Borough Police are continuing the investigation into a robbery at a Pennsylvania Avenue drugstore.
Police Chief Joseph Beachem said yesterday the case is being worked everyday and there have been several leads. He said he is awaiting the results of work being done by the FBI on a video capture of the suspect from a surveillance camera at the Community Pharmacy Drugstore.
Beachem said it might be another couple of weeks before he would have the enhancement of the photograph. The original was described as grainy. Some work was done on the photograph and it was published in The Daily Herald on Feb. 2.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. on Jan. 31 The police were dispatched to the scene at 1:06 p.m. and arrived a couple of minutes later, according to a press release issued the day after the robbery.
Witnesses said the suspect ran from the store and headed south on Pennsylvania Avenue.
The suspect was described as being a white man about five feet, 10 inches with an average build and “scruffy” facial hair, probably a few day’s growth. His hair is described as dark and he was said to be wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt and gloves.
According to the press release, the suspect entered the store and proceeded directly to the pharmacy where he asked the pharmacist to do him a favor.
When the pharmacist asked how he could help him, the suspect told the pharmacist to give him Oxycontin and then said he had a gun and implied he would use it.
The pharmacist said there was a bulge in the front pocket of the sweatshirt where the suspect kept his hand, as if he were holding a firearm.
The pharmacist gave the suspect some Oxycontin and the robber left the store.
Beachem said the police have been following up on leads and have interviewed possible suspects but there had not been anything concrete.
“Right now, the video enhancement is our best bet,” said Beachem.
