Mrs. Patsey A. Getz, age 89, of 519 W. 16th Street, Tyrone and a guest at Moran’s Nursing Home, Bellwood, died Friday, February 25, 2005 at 4:12 p.m. She was born March 23, 1915 in Tyrone, the daughter of David H. and Minnie Hampton Meredith. On July 19, 1936 at the Presbyterian Manse in Tyrone she was married to Karl L. “Baldy” Getz who preceded her in death August 7, 2004. She is survived by three children: Sandra, wife of John Burket of Sinking Valley; David and wife Margurette of Warfordsburg and Patricia, wife of Kenneth Abbruzzi of Ocala, Fl.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one sister, Helen Meredith of Tyrone. She was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd. She was head of the Children’s Department of the Sunday School at the Columbia Avenue and Good Shepherd Churches; was a Sunday School teacher and served as secretary of the Missionary Society. She was a member of Tyrone Chapter No. 288 O.E.S. and the Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed her knitting and sewing and had made many blankets for Church World Service and also had made baby blankets for distribution through Church World Service. She loved writing and sending cards, had been an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels and found great enjoyment being with her family. She was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1932 and had served as a secretary at both the Columbia Avenue Methodist and the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Funeral service for Mrs. Getz will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd with Reverend Norman E. Huff officiating. Private interment will be made at the convenience of the family at Blair Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Richard H.
