Reuben W. Adams Sr., 86, of 890 Shady Dell Lane, Port Matilda died peacefully at home, February 19, 2005.
He was born October 16, 1918 in Port Matilda, the son of Dorie and Mary (Reese) Adams. On January 13, 1951 he married Alma V. Cowher who died in 1989.
He is survived by one daughter and three sons: Wilma D. and Husband Stewart Hockenberry Sr. of Bellefonte, Dorie and wife Janet of Port Matilda, Reuben W. Jr. and wife Debra of Port Matilda and Terry L. and wife Rebecca of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one sister, Chardette Albright of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, five sisters and five brothers.
Mr. Adams was a graduate of Port Matilda High School. He was a member of Black Oak Church, a 60 year member of Port Matilda Legion Post No. 536, Philipsburg V.F.W., American Veterans of Philipsburg, past member of Centennial Grange and a member of the Bald Eagle Fraternal Order of Police.
He had served in the US Army from 1941-1945 during WWII in the European theater receiving the purple heart and numerous other medals.
He was a butcher and stock manager at the Corner Room Hotel, State College and PSU until retiring in 1980. He enjoyed square dancing, singing, playing cards, gardening, hunting and fishing.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Black Oak Church, Port Matilda. The church is handicap accessible.
Rev. Ben Grove and Samuel Reese will be officiating. Place of burial is Black Oak Cemetery, Worth Twp. with military honors.
Friends will be received at the Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, Warriors Mark, today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
