Tyrone Hospital has purchased three new LIFEPAK 12 Medtronic Biphasic Defibrillators Monitors.
The defibrillators are used to resuscitate the heart. Francie Lucas of Medtronic was onsite in early February to inservice nursing staff on the use of the new defibrillators. Lucas said the healthcare industry is generally moving to biphasic rather than the monophasic defibrillator technology.
“Studies have shown that the biphasic defibrillator technology can save more lives by improving patient outcomes. The biphasic technology moves wave forms through the chest differently during resuscitation and uses fewer shocks to resuscitate the heart,” she added.
The new defibrillators are now in service in the hospital’s emergency room, intensive care unit and the medical surgical unit.
