The Central PA Wolves Ice hockey team played to a 3-3 tie on Thursday evening at Galactic Ice with the Ligonier Valley Mounties.
Following a scoreless opening period, both teams opened up in the middle period. The Wolves poured in a trio of second-period scores to two for Ligonier Valley in the hottest action of the young season.
Ligonier Valley was able to tack on a single third-period score to tie the game and defense prevailed with neither team able to mount a score in the two-minute overtime period.
Ligonier Valley poked in a goal in the opening minute of the second period to take the early lead.
Craig Thompson (Central) personally put his club into the lead with a pair of goals for the Wolves. First, Thompson scored an unaided goal with 9:34 to play in the 12-minute period, then the Central 11th-grader banged in another score, also unassisted at the 7:38 mark.
Ligonier Valley got the second tie of the game with a goal, before Central PA added their third goal of the period by Issac Fink (Bald Eagle Area) with assists by Adam Erlichman (Bedford) and Seth Duffy (Bedford).
Ligonier Valley gained the third tie of the match with just under four minutes to play in the third period and it stayed that way through the overtime. Both teams record stands at 1-1-1 for the 2004-05 season.
Central PA goalie Fred Dorman (Bellwood-Antis) had 22 saves in 25 shots on goal.
The Wolves next action will be in the annual Dean Patterson Little Stanley Cup Tournament which begins on Monday, Nov. 22. The first draw for Central PA will be against Altoona at 8:40 p.m.. The Wolves junior varsity and junior high will also be involved in the tournament, with all games being played at Galactic Ice.
The next regular season game for the Wolves will be Dec. 1, against Ligonier Valley at the Indiana Ice Center.
