The Central PA Wolves and Central Cambria Red Devils ice hockey teams were tied 1-1 after a relatively quiet opening period at the North Central Recreation Center in Ebensburg on Monday night.
Then an explosion shook the rink with nine more goals scored over the final two 12-minute periods, with the Wolves coming up with six of the nine for a 7-3 victory.
Spring Cove’s Craig Thompson led the barrage for the Wolves with four goals and an assist. Issac Fink (Bald Eagle Area) scored twice and had one assist and Jamin Solensky (Cambria heights) scored the final goal of the game for Central PA and had an assist. Andy Shoop (Spring Cove), Seth Duffy (Bedford), Chris Carthew (Chestnut Ridge) Chris Matish (Penn Cambria), Josh Kennedty (Spring Cove), and Jonathan Bishop (Tyrone) each had assists.
After the two teams traded early goals, Thompson led a Central PA attack with three straight scores and Fink added the first of his two on the night to give the Wolves a big 5-1 advantage.
Central Cambria (0-6) scored a pair of third-period goals to attempt to get back into the contest, bnut Central PA countered with goals by Fink and Solensky to win going away.
Wolves goal keeper Fred Dorman (Bellwood-Antis) stopped 18 of 21 shots on goal.
The Central PA Varsity Wolves (4-3-2 overall, 2-1-1 regular season) next regular season games are Saturday, Dec. 11 at 4 p.m. vs. Derry at Delmont, and Monday, Dec. 13 at 8:40 p.m. vs. Hollidaysburg at Galatic Ice in Lakemont.
