Last week at the Bellwood-Antis School Board meeting, several senior FFA members were honored for their accomplishments at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show in Harrisburg earlier this year.
Those recognized included Joe Carosielli, Brandon Cherry, Ben Grove, Dustin Hoffer, Travis Hoover, Cody McFarland and Josh Moore. Several of the boys along with their teacher, Mr. James Mackereth, were on hand at the meeting and were presented with certificates by the board.
High school principal, Michael Sakash praised the program by saying, “We have an outstanding FFA program at the school.”
The seven Bellwood-Antis FFA members were presented with the Keystone FFA Degree at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show in Harrisburg during a special ceremony held at the 2005 Pennsylvania FFA Mid-Winter Convention earlier this year.
Joe Carosielli was also recognized as an FFA Regional Star in the South Central FFA Region. Carosielli is the son of Tony and Kathy Carosielli of Bellwood, and he received a special plaque and $100 cash award for his accomplishments. Joe was one of only 16 students in the entire state of Pennsylvania to be selected for this honor.
The FFA Mid-Winter Convention is held each year in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Farm Show. Over 3,000 FFA members, advisors and guests from across the state attended this event, with 283 FFA members receiving their Keystone FFA Degrees.
Also at the meeting, board members voted in favor of repairing the stadium sound system by Phil Reigh Sound at a cost of $2,800. The repairs will make the system operational with three speakers for the spring track season. They also approved a motion to authorize the administration to advertise for bids to replace the current four-speaker system with an eight-speaker system and a new power sequencing system. All parts installed during the repair to the system will be utilized with the upgrade.
The board moved to approve the SAT preparation class with a student fee of $25 for interested students to prepare for the SAT test and to approve employment of Sara Weamer and Kristeen Riddle for nine hours each at the homebound rate of $24.18 per hour to teach the class.
Mr. Donald Wagner also announced that Bellwood-Antis received approval to administer the SATs at the school. The first tests will be administered on May 7.
“This will allow students to not have to look at different locations to take the test,” said Wagner.
