The Central PA Wolves defeated the Central Cambria Red Devils at Galactic Ice, on Thursday, to post their sixth win in seven games since the beginning of 2005.
Central PA used a pair of goals from Craig Thompson (Spring Cove) and one each by Andy Shoop (Spring Cove) and Jonathan Bishop (Tyrone) to jump out to a 4-0 advantage, before junior high goal keeper Kody Martin (Allegany County) was finally scored on for a pair of third-period goals to set the final.
Thompson put the first score on the board with an assist by Seth Duffy (Bedford) at the 7:20 mark of the opening period, then assisted Bishop on his goal midway through the second stanza.
Jamin Solensky, an eighth grader from Cambria Heights, and Bryan Carthew (Chestnut Ridge) assisted on Shoop’s goal with just under four minutes on the clock in the second period, and Thompson completed the scoring for Central PA off an assist from Bedford’s Kevin Perron, 30 seconds later.
Martin stopped 22 of 24 shots on goal in the crease, while his teammates were good on four of 29 shots.
Central Cambria drops to 3-14-1 on the season, while the Wolves, whose next action is Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 8:15 p.m. vs. Blades at Indiana Ice Center in Indiana and Thursday, Feb. at 8:10 p.m. vs. Kiski Prep at Galactic Ice, improve to 9-3-3 in league play and 11-5-4 overall.
