Bellwood-Antis hosted a double dual wrestling match on Saturday with fellow Tri-County foes Tussey Mountain and Southern Huntingdon.
The Blue Devils dropped both matches, losing to Tussey Mountain 40-28 and Southern Huntingdon 51-30.
Brandon Beech (130), Josh Ervine (140), Dwayne Cherry (189) and Eli Colyer (119) each won two matches, while Donnie Partner and Ricky Shawley split two decisions 1-1.
B-A opened with Tussey Mountain and jumped out to a 12-4 lead with two wins in the opening three weight classes.
The duals all began at 130-pounds. Brandon Beech got six points the easy way by taking a forfeit and Josh Ervine pinned Justin Hess in 4:42 at 140.
Ervine jumped out to a 7-0 lead after one period with a takedown and two sets of nearfall points. In the second stanza, Ervine added an escape, takedown and three more backpoints. With a 13-4 advantage, Ervine took the top for the kill to begin the third period, turned Hess and worked for the fall.
At 135, Ronnie Wilson got off to a 4-0 start over Waylon Corbin, with a first-period takedown and second-period reversal, but the rest of the match was all Corbin, who poured on 13 straight points for a major decision.
Tussey scored three straight six-point wins to push out to a 25-12 lead.
Jordan Bollman pinned Ron Colyer at 152,, Josh Eichelberger pinned Garett Wyland at 160 in the B-A sophomore’s first varsity competition, and Kyle Zeigler received a forfeit at 171.
Dwayne Cherry got six points back for Bellwood-Antis in a hurry, decking Dustin Hess in 1:26 at 189.
Brian Dougherty wrestled probably his best match of the year giving up just one takedown in six minutes work on the mat. Trouble was, he couldn’t score any points and dropped the bout 2-0.
Anthony Linaras picked up a forfeit win at 275 for the Titans and after a no match at 103, Timmy Focker pinned Donnie Partner at 112, when B-A coach Ron Wilson moved Partner up from 103. Bellwood-Antis need wins in all of the final three matches to pull out a dual win.
The Blue Devils got the last two, when Eli Colyer won by forfeit and Ricky Shawley used a takedown, two reversals and four sets of nearfall points to major Kenny Jamison 17-5.
In the dual against Southern Huntingdon, Bellwood-Antis once again jumped out to an early 12-3 lead, only to see the Rockets post four big wins in a row, three by pin, plus picking up a forfeit and couldn’t get back up out of the hole created by a 27-12 Southern Huntingdon advantage.
Beech (12-8) took an early 5-0 lead at 130, over Bryant Yohn with a takedown and nearfall, then added a second-period takedown before pinning Yohn in 3:21. At 135, Rocket Glenn Werner used reversals in the first and third periods to trim B-A sophomore Ronnie Wilson 6-3.
Southern forfeited to Josh Ervine (11-7) at 140, moving each of their next three wrestlers up a weight and it paid off in bonus points.
Justin Berrier pinned Dustin Harris (6-13) in 1:50 at 145, David Sunderland pinned Ron Colyer (3-9) in 1:33 at 152 and Scott Everhart decked Garett Wyland (0-2) in 0:41.
Dwayne Cherry (10-3) temporarily stopped the Rockets’ string at 189. Cherry took Anthony Panosetti down, but was reversed as the two grapplers took a 2-2 tie into the second stanza. Cherry reversed his foe after choosing the bottom position to begin the middle period for the only scoring of the period, then scored another takedown in the third period and registered the fall at the 4:33 mark to cut the Southern deficit to 27-18.
The Rockets’ Landon McElrath pinned Brian Dougherty (0-6) at 215 and Chris Lyons got a forfeit at 275, to jump the lead back to 39-18.
The Blue Devils’ Don Partner (1-8) and Rockets’ Cody Myers traded forfeits at 103 and 112.
Eli Colyer (12-4) put the final B-A points on the scoreboard with a first period pin over Nathan Stains. Colyer hit Stains for a five-point move before showing the Rocket 119-pounder the lights in 1:14. Eli had decked Stains in 1:44 at the Zeigler Tournament a week before.
Jason Foor ended the match in style for Southern by pinning Ricky Shawley (8-8) in 5:44, while sporting a 10-0 lead.
“I thought we had a good chance to get a win in the first match.” said B-A coach Ron Wilson, “but we came out flat against Tussey Mountain. We wrestled better against Southern in the second match, despite the final score.”
