Deju-vu!
The Central PA Wolves Ice Hockey team battled the Ligonier Valley Mounties for the second time during the early portion of the season on Wednesday night at the Indiana Ice Center. And for the second straight contest, the two teams battled to a draw.
The lead changed hands several times. The Wolves jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, before Ligonier Valley came back to score a pair of goals for a 2-1 lead. Central PA tied the score, only to have the Mountie draw ahead 3-2 at the beginning of the third period. Central PA put together two scores to take a 4-3 advantage, only to have Ligonier Valley tie the game one more time.
After both sides peppered the nets for the first two and a half periods, defense took over with no scores by either team over the final six and a half minutes of regulation and the two-minute overtime.
Craig Thompson (Spring Cove) got the Wolves the early lead with an unassisted score just nine seconds into the game, Chris Carthew (Chestnut Ridge) tied the game with an assist from Issac Fink (Bald Eagle Area) with the opening period just about in the books.
Following a scoreless second period, both teams scored twice in the third to send the game into overtime.
Thompson added two more goals, the first on an assist from Andy Shoop (Spring Cove) and the second unassisted to give the Wolves the temporary lead.
Fred Dorman (Bellwood-Antis) stopped 22 of 26 shots for the Wolvers in goal.
Bryan Cairns scored his third gola of the contest to knot the score 4-4 and that was the way it stayed through the overtime.
The Central PA Varsity Wolves (3-3-2 overall, 1-1-2 regular season)) go on the road for their next regular season games, Monday, December 6 at 7 p.m. vs. Central Cambria at Ebensburg, and Saturday, December 11 at 4 p.m. vs. Derry at Delmont.
