The town is painted and ready to go for Tyrone’s first-ever Victorian Christmas Celebration set to get underway today.
Visitors will enjoy holiday shopping, fun-filled activities for children and adults, a variety of food selections and live entertainment.
The celebration kicks off this afternoon with the Fifth Annual Soup Tasting Contest at 4:30 p.m. at the Tyrone Social Center.
At 6 p.m. this evening, the annual community tree lighting ceremony will take place at the post office. The holiday Christmas parade is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m., with a social to follow at the Armory including the chance to visit with Santa.
On Friday, the Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary’s Annual Craft Sale and Tea will be held. The “Holly Hop” Dance scheduled for Friday night at the Tyrone Social Center has been postponed.
Many events are scheduled on Saturday. The following list contains many of the activities residents and visitors can enjoy during the celebration.
Downtown Area
There will be a craft show at the Social Center, the Historical Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Rail Park), an old fashion lantern display at the Historical Museum, merchant sidewalk sales and food vendors, horse-drawn carriage rides, live entertainment at City Hotel park, TCP Cafe’ open, artist display and the opportunity to call Santa live.
Also scheduled are a live Nativity Scene from Faces & Places Ministries, gingerbread house decorating by Burleys, animated holiday windows, family fun and activities at State Farm Insurance, poinsettia sale at the Social Center, wood and ice carving demonstration, wreath and tree decorating demonstration, high tea at Trinity Episcopal Church, breakfast with Santa at Colonial Courtyard, a Victorian Christmas candle sale, bazaar and craft sale at American Legion and baked goods for sale by groups at Conny’s Square and much more.
At the Armory (Kid’s Korner)
Visit with Santa Claus, model train display, tree decorating contest, special kids holiday crafts (to make), caricatures by Chip Mock and face painting.
At the Library
Artisan display, children’s movie(s) and a reading by Mrs. Claus.
Holiday Ornaments
Visit downtown merchants to receive a free unique ornament with minimal store purchase. (Each merchant has their own unique ornament).
