Penn’s Woods Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of Talus Rock Council have once again teamed up for this year’s ‘Good Turn Food Drive’.
This is a project to collect canned and packaged foods for area neighbors in need.
This Saturday, November 13, local Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts will “invade” area neighborhoods, armed with bright orange door hangers, alerting the citizens of this food drive.
Scouts will distribute these hangers which have listed items most needed by the local food banks. This reminder can be hung on everyone’s kitchen cupboards.
Items needed include: canned meats, baby formula, baby cereal, macaroni, canned fruit, canned milk, cereal, peanut butter, canned fish, beef stew, canned soup (chunky style), canned vegetables, canned potatoes, powdered milk, packaged foods, paper products and boxed mixes.
Please nothing perishable, frozen or in glass.
Next Saturday, November 20, the Scouts will reappear to collect the bags of food for the food bank. Please place donations in a paper or plastic bag outside the front door by 9 a.m.
The local food bank is located at the Wesley United Methodist Church on Logan Avenue and 12th Street. Mrs. LeVonne Angelo is the coordinator of the local food bank and has numerous volunteers, most of whom are senior citizens who assist her with this ministry.
Once again Kopp Drug will serve as a drop-off point for the food bank.
On pick-up day, November 20, there will be a drop-off cart in the parking lot for the areas not covered by the Scouts. After Saturday, individuals may drop off donations at Kopp Drug until Thanksgiving.
Please use this opportunity to help neighbors in need, by buying extra groceries, and having them ready for collection on November 20.
Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts from Troops sponsored by the Church of the Good Shepherd, Bald Eagle United Methodist Church, Warriors Mark United Methodist Church, and St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church will be working together to perform this most needed community service.
