The Tyrone Area School District Renaissance Education Foundation recently announced a group of “stars” for the first marking period of the 2004-05 school year. Tyrone Area teachers nominated 14 students for recognition due to their outstanding academic achievement, positive attitude or overall improvement.
Derrick Emigh, a sixth grader, was chosen by Mr. Bouslough, Mr. Friday and Mrs. Myers. The teachers said Derrick is always in a good mood. He is very polite and gets his work done. He is willing to help others and he is a good role model for other students.
Krista Harpster was chosen by her sixth grade teacher Miss Kehoe who described her as a very hard worker.
“She takes school very seriously. Krista participates in class discussions and volunteers answers,” said Miss Kehoe.
Seventh grader Arica Robenolt was chosen as a “star” by her teacher Miss Morrissey. Miss Morrissey explained that she chose Arica because she attends classes, completes work, participates in classes and has a very positive attitude towards school. Miss Morrissey is very proud of her.
Kali Gray was chosen by her seventh grade English teacher, Mrs. Pinter.
“Kali is one of those remarkable students who has achieved a great balance between school and life. What really makes her stand out is her personality. She is a great student who is willing to help others,” Mrs. Pinter said of Kali.
Eighth grader Travis St. Pierre was chosen by his music teacher, Mrs. Harris, who explained her choice by saying, “As a new student, Travis came into the choral program with a very positive attitude. He got to know the students around him and always gives 110 percent. Travis consistently comes into class ready to work and has served as a wonderful example to his classmates.”
Matt Anderson was chosen by the eighth grade team of teachers consisting of Mrs. Casillo, Mrs. Cannistraci and Mrs. Martin. According to his teachers, Matt has demonstrated exemplary academic performance. Specifically, he submitted an outstanding wildflower project. In all of his classes, Matt completes his work on time and with quality. He is a hard worker with a great attitude.
Ninth grader Greg Tyler received praise from technology teacher, Mr. Brown, who said, “Greg is a very pleasant desktop publishing student who comes to class on a regular basis and is always prepared to put forth a great effort. Greg follows instruction, completes assignments, uses good planning and imagination while using the tools and processes introduced in class. “
Freshman Ashley Dunne was commended by social studies teacher Mrs. Burket.
“Ashley is a new student in Tyrone who has done a great job adjusting to a new school. She works hard, completes her work and earns good grades,” said Mrs. Burket.
Stephanie Spatz was selected by her tenth grade science teacher Mrs. Holsinger. Mrs. Holsinger said, “Stephanie is a student who is extremely conscientious. She has great academic ability even though she may try to hide it at times. Mrs. Holsinger is very impressed with her ability to communicate in writing, especially on her biology lab reports. She believes Stephanie would have a great future in the science field.”
Carrie Bartlebaugh was chosen by English teacher, Miss Dobrowolsky.
Miss Dobrowolsky says, “Carrie is a joy to have in the classroom. She is always prepared to learn and contribute in class.
“She offers assistance to me and others.”
Carrie is also involved in the TAHS activities including soccer, mock election and basketball.
Junior Chris Clark was nominated by his C++ programming teacher, Mr. Bloom. According to Mr. Bloom, Chris has compiled an extensive C++ program that includes graphics and bitmaps. The program has taken the entire nine weeks to complete and is outstanding.
Evan Kost was chosen by his eleventh grade French teacher, Mrs. Smith.
She said, “Evan is a pleasure to have in class. His love an interest in the French language and culture motivates me to continue to learn and do my best as his teacher. Evan is inspiring to the class.”
Justin Wilson was chosen by his senior social studies teacher, Mr. McNelis, who said, “Through hard work and dedication, Justin has made remarkable progress and achievement his senior year.”
Senior Crystal Wafa was nominated by math teacher, Mr. Wolf. He explained his choice, saying, “Crystal has a determination that she will learn Algebra II. Her perseverance is admirable.”
