The Bellwood-Antis junior high girls basketball team gained a measure of revenge on Thursday afternoon at Bellwood. The Lady Blue Devils came from behind with a strong second-half effort to down Juniata Valley 31-27. The Bellwood-Antis junior high girls had dropped a 35-13 decision to the Lady Hornets at Alexandria in Sept. The win kept the Lady Blue Devils in a tie for the top spot in the Juniata Valley League.
Amanda Ingram continued her hot hand with a game-high 16 points, that included four three-pointers. Ashley Lechner pumped in six points and Alicia Hippo added five points for the Lady Blue Devils.
Kassandra Feagley had 15 points to lead Juniata Valley.
“I wasn’t pleased with the way we played in the first half, and I let them know about it at half time,” said Bellwood-Antis coach Chris Walker. “We were down 11-9 and I told the girls that someone needed to step up and take the game over. Amanda caught fire in the second half and scored eight of her 16 points in the fourth quarter and Ashley scored all six of her points in the second half. I feel like I keep saying this after every game, but we need to be a better foul shooting team. We were nine for 21 today, and we’re shooting 34 percent for the season.”
Bellwood-Antis (12-5 overall, 11-2 JVL) travel to Penns Valley on Monday, Oct. 25 and then finish the season at home against Bishop Guilfoyle on Thursday, Oct. 28.
