Rep. Lynn B. Herman (R-Centre) will discuss his interest in and knowledge of the expedition of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to the Bellwood Historical Society at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 23.
Those who attend the presentation will be treated to a description of Lewis and Clark’s expedition to find a water route to the Pacific. Herman’s presentation will include several illustrations.
Beginning Aug. 31, 2003, Herman spent several days following the route of Lewis and Clark from the Liberty Bridge in Pittsburgh along the Ohio and Mississippi rivers to Saint Charles, MO, 200 years to the day the explorers made the same trip.
On May 7, 2004, following the trail of Lewis and Clark, Herman traveled from St. Louis to the Mandan Indian Village on the Missouri River in North Dakota.
The nation is currently commemorating the bicentennial of the expedition to seek a Northwest passage to the Pacific Ocean.
The library is at 526 Main Street in Bellwood.
