A new tool promoting lung health is up and running in Pennsylvania.
The American Lung Association Call Center is now available to answer questions on topics such as asthma, lung cancer and smoking.
The American Lung Association of Pennsylvania has been fighting lung disease through education, community service, advocacy and research since 1892. Their mission is to prevent lung disease and promote lung health.
Now, residents of Pennsylvania can obtain answers to their lung health questions by calling a toll-free number, 1-800-548-8252 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays.
All calls placed during other hours will be returned the following business day.
The Call Center is staffed with specially trained nurses and respiratory therapists who can provide immediate and comprehensive information about specific lung health issues such as lung cancer, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma and tuberculosis.
The center also provides extensive information on topics including allergies, how to quit smoking and environmental issues. Another feature the center offers is physician referrals. Upon request, callers are provided with no less than three specialists in their area.
Individuals who call the center with questions can expect a free, confidential conversation with a registered nurse or licensed respiratory care practitioner. These medical experts are kept up-to-date with weekly continuing education sessions.
“Being able to provide the Call Center free of charge is just one more service the American Lung Association provides to all Pennsylvanians,” said Stacy Henninger, communications director for ALAPA, in a recent press release.
