Breast cancer will strike more than 200,000 times this year and claim 40,000 lives.
“Making Strides” has been the American Cancer Society’s rallying cry to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer.
That is why a five-mile walk to benefit breast cancer patient service programs and for breast cancer research is scheduled for Sunday, October 3 at 1:30 p.m.
Participants are needed for the walk titled, “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer,” which will be held in Johnstown, through the historic and beautiful Old Westmont.
The walk is open to individuals, groups, teams, families, churches and anyone who would like to support the fight against breast cancer.
There are only four walks to support breast cancer in the state of Pennsylvania, so don’t miss this chance.
With the funds raised, the American Cancer Society is able to apply it to research, early detection, treatment, genetic tests, risk reduction and access to care.
The American Cancer Society has dedicated $2.5 billion to scientific research and has funded 32 Nobel Prize-winning scientists. Also, in 2000, the organization fought to make the Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Act federal law, earmarking $1 billion to treat medically underserved women.
For additional information or to register for the walk, contact the American Cancer Society at 695-9511 or visit the web site at www.cancer.org.
