Figures released by State Representative Jerry Stern, (R-Blair), show both Tyrone Area and Bellwood-Antis school districts will receive an increase in education funding for the upcoming school year.
The funding measures are part of the recently passed state budget which went into effect earlier this week when Governor Ed Rendell signed it into law.
The figures for the Tyrone Area School District are as follows:
•basic education, $7,923,866, an increase of $176,049 or 2.3 percent;
•special education, $1,320,487, an increase of $25,892 or two percent;
•block grant funding, $241,984.
The total funding for Tyrone for the 2004-05 school year will be $9,486,357 or a 4.9 percent increase.
The block grant funding comes from a total pot of $200 million for Pennsylvania Accountability grants to state public schools. The $200 million is an increase of $50 million over the previous amount of $150 million. The grants provide funding to the schools for early education, full-day Kindergarten and other initiatives.
The figures for the Bellwood-Antis School District are as follows:
•basic education, $5,865,048, an increase of 297,668 or 5.3 percent;
•special education, $645,341, an increase of $15,924 or 2.5 percent;
•block grant funding, $176,344.
The total funding for Bellwood-Antis for the 2004-05 school year will be $6,686,732 or an increase of 7.9 percent.
