Representative Lynn Herman (R-Centre) said Monday the House Transportation Committee will hear an update from the state Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Protection on efforts to remedy the acid rock drainage hazard at Skytop Mountain, but the hearing will not happen on July 7.
That date had been reported by some media sources according to a release from Representative Herman’s Harrisburg office.
“State Transportation Secretary Allen D. Biehler, P. E., informed committee staff that he will not be available to testify on that day,” said Herman “Additionally, several key staffers from the DEP won’t be available.
“It would be of no use to have a hearing at that particular time,” said Herman.
The Transportation Committee had previously met in March to discuss the environmental problems at the I-99 site.
“I understand the departments want to cooperate but they deserve the opportunity to properly prepare for the questions from the citizens of Centre County and the members of the General Assembly,” said Herman.
He also said as soon as the meeting is rescheduled he will inform area residents via his web site and through the media.
