Numerous individuals interested in the area’s historical roots visited the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library on Saturday for the first ever genealogy fair held in the library community room.
An informal gathering of area genealogy researchers presented information from over 35 families of the Tyrone, Sinking Valley, Warriors Mark and Birmingham areas.
Persons participating in the genealogy fair included: Aileen Fulcomer, Karen Morrow, Chris Wilt, Nancy Wilt, Maribel Hilderbrand, Beverly Walker, Betty Woomer, Vicki Trostle, Jim Woomer, Jim Snyder, Jennie Amrhein, John Pennabaker, Doris Mitchell and Alan Wrye.
During the fair, those in attendance gathered information for their own family trees.
Those interested in continuing research are encouraged to visit the library’s local history and genealogy room, which is open during all library hours.
Also at the new facility, the children’s summer reading program theme is ‘Discover New Trails at Your Library.’
Registration for the reading program is scheduled for June 26 from 1-5 p.m., with Ed Nale to share his Native American storytelling, songs and games with the children.
The reading program will run from June 26 to August 7 with outings, games, and other events, along with reading and prizes.
Also at the library, an AARP driver safety program will be held in the library community room on July 26-27 from 6-10 p.m.
This classroom refresher course teaches defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws, rules of the road, and much more. It also results in auto insurance discounts for those who complete and pass the classes. The cost of the program is $10 payable at the first session. Call the library to sign up for this program.
