Earlier this week, the Bellwood -Antis school board honored students for their outstanding achievements.
Among those honored were: Emily Thompkins, Joey DelGrosso and Kelsey Shawley for winning the Fourth Grade poetry contest. This contest was developed by fourth grade teachers.
This year Mr. Jim Bilka, retired elementary principal, donated three $100 savings bonds. Each honoree received one $100 bond.
Katie Gardner was honored for the highest point scorer in girls\’ basketball in the school’s history with a score of 1232.
Seventh grader Beth Wheeler received the John Hopkins Search for Talented Youth Award. She was also the State Qualifier for the Reader\’s Digest National Vocabulary Word Power Challenge. Beth scored in the 1200s on her SAT test.
The middle school Blue Reading Team won first place in the fall and spring competitions. The team members are Emily Crook, Troy McCrum, Alyssa Davis, Grant DeArmitt, Allison Derr, Cooper Campbell, Lindsy McElhinney, Kyle Davinsizer, Trey Campbell, Allison McMillan, Mackenzie Sternberg and Jenna Manning. The team is supervised by Mary McCrum.
Accepting the award on behalf of the team was Emily Crook.
Taking third place in the fall and first place in the spring reading competitions was the middle school Gold Team. The team consists of Emily Burget, David Wolf, Angela Taylor, Michael Isola, Brian Leap, Errin McCaulley, Danielle Chaplin, Josiah Epple, Adam Thompson, Lucas Evans, Seth Hegarty and Cody Krepps. Supervising this team was Tammie Epple. Members Emily Burget and Michael Isola accepted the award on behalf of their team.
Presenting the awards were school superintendent Brian Toth; school board president Ken Loucks; and vice president, Donna Tyler. Mr. Jim Bilka also presented the $100 saving bond to each poetry contest winner.
