(Editor’s note: This is the fourth installment in a week-long series featuring the lead performers and cast of Tyrone Area School District’s ‘The Wiz.’ The show is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 2-3 at the Tyrone High School auditorium.)

Next to be introduced in the spotlight on the lead characters of The Wiz is Tyrone Area High School senior Cory Jones.
Cory was a salesman in The Music Man, and Dan, the brother that sang with a Jamaican flare in last year’s musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He also has participated in the Tyrone Community Players’ production of Sherwood.
Along with performing in musicals, he has participated in PMEA District and Regional Chorus in eleventh and twelfth grades. He also plays rhythm guitar and sings vocals in the Christian rock band Zion’s Gate.
When asked about his role in The Wiz Cory said, “Being in The Wiz has been the most rewarding theater work that I have ever engaged in. This has been a great experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. I am having a great time working with everyone in the cast.
“It is an honor to be on the same stage with such a talented group of performers and friends. The bond that we have formed on the stage is something that will stay with us for as long as we all live. I am so excited to put on the show of a life time for all the people in the community.”
After graduation from TASD, Cory plans to attend the Pennsylvania State University, majoring in film and video.
He plans on pursuing his dreams of entertainment and always living his life to the fullest.
However, that is the future for Cory and the time is now to entertain the audience. After the success that Joseph received, everyone in the cast is ready to up the bar, and take the audience to a place where people can become lost in the dream that is the wonderful “Land of Oz.”
Cory encourages everyone that has a “brain,” unlike the Scarecrow, to come out on April 2 and April 3 and allow themselves to be enchanted by The Wiz. Ticket reservations can be made by calling 684-4240, extension 3700.
