A yard/bake sale has been scheduled for Saturday, April 3 from 9-3 p.m. at the American Red Cross Blair County Chapter office, located at 4100 Fifth Avenue in Altoona.
Donations are now being accepted for the fourth annual second time around sale. Household items, furniture and small appliances may be delivered to the office during regular business hours, or call 944-6146 extension 203 to request a pick up.
All proceeds will benefit the work of the Red Cross and its efforts to respond to disasters and emergencies in Blair County.
Monies will be used to provide food, clothing and shelter, along with other approved disaster caused needs, for victims of disasters such as fires and floods across the county.
Governed by volunteers and supported by community donations, the American Red Cross is a nationwide network of nearly 1,000 chapters and Blood Services regions dedicated to saving lives and helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
Led by 1.2 million volunteers and 30,000 employees, the Red Cross annually mobilizes relief to families affected by more than 67,000 disasters, trains almost 12 million people in lifesaving skills and exchanges more than a million emergency messages for U.S. military service personnel and their families.
The Red Cross is the largest supplier of blood and blood products to more than 3,000 hospitals across the nation and also assists victims of international disasters and conflicts at locations worldwide.
There is always a need for volunteers at the American Red Cross. Individuals are needed in the health in safety services, which is instructors for first aid and CPR classes and emergency assistance to Armed Forces, which is getting the verified emergency messages from home to relatives serving in the military wherever they are stationed in the world.
Also, disaster services, which is responding to fires, floods, or any other disaster to provide food and beverage to responders and to assist the victims with their disaster caused needs and office work, which is assisting in the office with certain assigned duties.
