Code Enforcement Officer Thomas Lang reported earlier this week the municipality is still waiting for a court date to be scheduled regarding issues involving a property at 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue.
The Superior Court of Pennsylvania has yet to set a court date regarding the appeal of an original decision of the Blair County Court of Common Pleas. The property owners are appealing about $11,000 in previous fines for maintenance violations. Those fines were imposed in December on Mr. and Mrs. William Loner.
Since then the owners were issued an additional six citations. An additional $6,000 in fines were assessed and the Loners were found guilty during a hearing at the district justice’s office in early February.
According to Lang’s report to borough council, a building contractor, Eric Dasher, has renewed the building permit to remove the property maintenance violations. Dasher informed the borough the work would commence prior to the end of February if the weather would allow it.
Eyewitness reports revealed work was being done at the site on Tuesday. Additional observations this morning showed condemnation signs posted on the building which were issued by Lang last year. Also noted were a “for sale” sign and signs for Dasher’s construction business. The sidewalk around the building was taped off to prevent the public from going near it. There also was the appearance some work had been done compared to a previous observation early last month as well as a dumpster which has been placed near the building for a number of months.
Lang also reported a request from Dasher regarding another property at 978-980 Pennsylvania Avenue which is also owned by the Loners. Dasher was granted the required building permit to remove property maintenance violations at that address.
