Eight Tyrone wrestlers survived the first day of wrestling at the Penn Cambria Wrestling Tournament.
A total of 26 teams are represented.
T. J. Albright won by fall and knocked off the number one seed 13-6 to earn his trip into the quarterfinals at 103. Robert Waite won by fall and an 11-5 decision at 112. Dane McCloskey drew a bye and won an 11-2 major decision at 130. Thad Westley had a bye and a fall in 3:57 at 135. David Miller at 140, also had a bye and a pin. Heath Walk byed through the first round and edged his second round opponent 3-1. Terry Tate had a bye and a pin in 0:59 at heavyweight.
Matt Lauder, Justin Clark and Robert Emigh were still wrestling in the consolation rounds when The Daily Herald received the report from head coach Blair Packer.
Wrestling will reume at 8:30 a.m. with the second round consolations and quarterfinals. Semifinals will be wrestled at 12:30 p.m., consifinals at 5:30 p.m. and championship finals at 7:30.
The Annual Tri-County Wrestling Tournament began on Friday evening at Everett. The preliminary and quarterfinal rounds were wrestled with Claysburg-Kimmel in the lead with 89.5 points, followed by Glendale with 47.5, Juniata Valley 47, Tussey Mountain 41.5, Northern Bedford 37, Moshannon Valley 35, Everett 32, B-A 31, Southern huntingdon 29.5, and Central 12.
No Bellwood-Antis wrestler was in the prelims.
In the quarterfinals, Eli Colyer pinned Dustin Demko (Tussey Mountain) at 119, Josh Ervine pinned Dusty Aungst (Northern Bedford) at 135, Dwayne Cherry dec. Chris Lyons (Southern Huntingdon) 11-4 at 189 and Tyler Narehood decisioned Travis Rhodes (Central) 6-4 at heavyweight to qualify for the semifinals today when wrestling resumes.
Dustin Harris (130) lost a pair of matches to be eliminated, but Josh Hanna (145), Mike Thomas (160) and Brian Daugherty are still alive in the consolations.
Claysburg-Kimmel has 12 semifinalists, Glendale has seven, Northern Bedford has six, Southern Huntingdon, Everett, Tussey, Mo Valley and Juniata Valley each have five and Bellwood-Antis has four.
Wrestling will begin at 11 a.m. this morning with the consolation quarterfinals and semifinals. Consolation finals will begin at 5 p.m. with the championship finals to follow.
