Bill Fink came in first in the Tyrone Borough Council race in Tuesday’s general election.
Fink tallied 762 votes or 18.1 percent of the vote. The remaining top vote getters were Jeffrey Watson Jr., 711 votes; Jennifer L. Bryan, 681 votes; and Sharon Dannaway, 637 votes. All three of those candidates were incumbents who were re-elected to Tyrone Borough Council.
“I respect the decision of the voters”, said Mayor Patricia Stoner.
The Mayor added she was pleased three incumbents retained their seats and congratulated Bill Fink on his election to council. “The voice of the people was reflected in the results of the primary and last night” said Bill Fink as The Daily Herald went to press today. He said voters want open and honest government. Fink appeared at an event attended by the class of ‘42 earlier today. “They had no support for the Mayor’s statement that Bill Fink strikes fear into the hearts of the elderly and the poor”, said Fink in his statement to The Daily Herald. Fink added he feels elected officials should be expected to tell the public where they stand. Fink will also request the proposed budget for his review prior to taking office in January.
James Beckwith tallied 609 votes and was fifth in the voting. Sixth place in the race went to former Daily Herald editor Dan Meckes with 503 votes.
“I’m happy for Bill Fink. He really wanted it. I’m glad I got enough votes to make sure he got in.” Meckes told The Daily Herald in a phone interview this morning. Mayor Stoner should start cleaning out her desk because her boy is in town.”
The other major race that affects Tyrone directly is the Tyrone Area School District race.
Here are the results from the seven wards that comprise Tyrone Borough. Norman Huff received 19.28 percent of the vote and was the top vote getter in the borough with 188 votes, followed by Peter L. Dutrow, Luther J. Laird, Lee R. Stover and Becky A. Emenhiser. Voters were to pick five candidates for the 4-year-terms.
Four of those candidates won election district wide with Raymond Detwiler defeating Becky Emenhiser for the fifth and final available position on the Tyrone School Board.
In the Blair County Commissioners race, Republican Barry Wright may have received the most votes countywide in that race, but in Tyrone Borough he came in second to Republican John Eichelberger, Jr., he polled 146 votes Wright had 124 votes, followed by Donna D. Gority. Although the order of finish was juggled those same three were the top vote getters countywide and they won election to the three available commissioners positions.
