To kick off its twentieth anniversary season, Tyrone Community Players will perform Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella on November 7 and 8 at the Tyrone YMCA theater.
“TCP decided to do Cinderella as the premiere production in their anniversary season because of its broad appeal to our audience, and the beautiful musical and story lines it offered to our performers,” said TCP member Cindy Bennett. “It has been on our list of favorites for many years, and the time just seemed right to kick off a season filled with memories with a show that was close to everyone’s heart.”
Numerous individuals have contributed to make this tale about a young girl, her two stepsisters, a wicked stepmother, a fairy godmother, and a handsome prince come to life in the historic theater in the Tyrone YMCA.
With the combined artistic talents of Sharon Lucas and Steven Stoner, a set was designed to accommodate the space constraints, and the forty cast members, while still capturing the magic and mystery that makes Cinderella unforgettable.
Musical director, Karen Mayhew added the next component by assembling voices that will sing such melodies as “In My Own Little Corner,” “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?,” and “Ten Minutes Ago.”
The costumes for Cinderella were a collaboration between Laurie Cave and the costume design class at Grier School and Cathy Thomas and her middle school sewing class at Tyrone Area High School.
More behind the scenes magic went into the production such as ordering new lighting equipment and checking sound systems and microphones.
Lines are learned, dances are choreographed and practiced, and makeup is designed for each actor. Ushers are assembled, the theater is cleaned, tickets are printed and sold and posters and placements are distributed.
Director of Cinderella , Steven Stoner, has an extensive cast, totaling approximately 40 performers, and they are all working to make this production a success.
The principle characters include Megan Marcaurelle as Cinderella; Brett Keith as Prince Charming; Susan Brandt as the Wicked Stepmother and Darcy Wilson and Katie Kensinger as Portia and Joy, the Wicked Stepmother’s daughters.
Also, Debbie Huff Estright will fill the role of the Fairy Godmother, and Pete Hedberg will be the King opposite Lisa Myers’ Queen. The court is rounded out by Emily Fochler as the Chef and Nathan Pownall as the Steward.
In addition to the principle characters, the cast consists of 28 townspeople and members of the royal court, and a children’s chorus comprised of 20 young voices.
