The Bellwood-Antis junior high football team traveled to Amesville on Thursday evening to battle Moshannon Valley.
The Little Blue Devils (8-0) crunched Moshannon Valley 42-16 behind three touchdowns by Kosh Kleinfelter and two more by Devon Clapper to record an undefeated season.
Kleinfelter opened the scoring by returning an intercepted pass 45 yards for a touchdown and Clapper rushed for the two-point conversion.
“Our defense did a very good job,” said Bellwood-Antis coach Charlie Burch. “Josh Kleinfelter intercepted a pass on their offensive play of the game on the left and cut all the way across the field for the touchdon to get us started. We also had three more interceptions. We returned one of those for a TD, but it was called back on a penalty after the pick.”
Clapper then added another first-quarter score motoring 55 yards from scrimmage for the tally and Danny Campbell grabbed a two-point PAT pass from quarterback Evan Hughes.
“We completely dominated them.” said Burch, whose Blue Devils scored four TDs on their first 10 plays from scrimmage. “We knew we had to stay focused out there. They just weren’t able to handle our speed. Their coach remarked about that after the game saying, ‘he had never seen a team at this level with such speed and quickness.’ We got a little sloppy at times, but dominated from beginning to end.”
The Blue Devils then scored three times in the second quarter to roll up a 36-0 advantage by halftime.
Boe Latchford burst 18 yards for a TD, and Kleinfelter scooted 26 and six yards for two TDs. Big 260-pound lineman Tyler Narehood lined up in the backfield following Kleinfelter’s 26-yard score and bulled his way into the endzone to complete the two-point conversion.
Clapper raced 70 yards for the final B-A touchdown in the third quarter.
Kleinfelter and Clapper gave the Blue Devils a potent one-two punch all season with kleinfelter scoring 20 TDs and Clapper adding 12 more in eight games.
Moshannon Valley scored two TDs against the Blue Devil reserves in the fourth quarter.
“This has been a fantastic year,” said Burch in thinking back over the B-A junior high’s third undefeated season in the last five years. We expected sometning like this when we saw what we had returning at the end of last year’s season. It feels good to be able to follow through and avoid any pitfalls.
“I told the kids this is a little picture-big picture thing. I will really miss these guys, but I am looking forward to watching them play varsity football. If they can keep the same attitudes and ethic in the weight room and practice field, they can go a long way. Recent undefeated teams in junior high have not transfered that to the varsity level to become undefeated varsity teams. This group has more size than either of the other two teams had and is the only one of the three to escape without a tie on their record.”
