Mr. Donald J. Smith, 81, of Box 7, Tyrone RD2/Tipton, died early Thursday morning, Oct. 16, 2003 at Altoona Hospital.
He was born Sept. 27, 1922 in Warriors Mark, a son of the late George A. and Jessie (Stiver) Smith. He married Virginia E. “Amy” Shartle on June 26, 1942 in Alexandria, Va. She died July 11, 1995.
Mr. Smith is survived by three sons: James L. and wife Judy of Tyrone RR3; Richard W. and wife Joyce of Osceola Mills; and George A. and wife Sherrie of New Enterprise; a daughter, Cathy L. DelGrosso and her husband Fred of Tipton; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elsworth of Mt. Jewett, Joseph of Warriors Mark, and George of Pinegrove Mills; and two special in-laws, George and Ellie Oberly of Bellwood.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren an two sisters: Helen Bickle and Mae Brobeck.
He retired as a machinist at Conrail in June 1985.
Mr. Smith attended Bald Eagle United Methodist Parish. He was a member of the Tyrone Elks, Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Co. of Tyrone, The Tyrone American Legion and The Fraternal Order of Eagles in bellwood.
He enjoyed hunting, deep sea fishing and flowers.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home in Bellwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at the funeral home with Rev. Jay Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Mount Cemetery in Warriors Mark.
