It’s coming to be that time of the year again – nausea, high fever, lack of motivation.
Yep! It’s flu season.
But there’s one local grocer who’s helping residents take precautions against the nasty bug.
“The BiLo group has always done this in the past at select stores,” said Matt Rimbeck, manager of the Tyrone BiLo. “But this year, it’s going to happen in every store. We’re excited about it and we’re glad to be able to help the residents of this great community.”
The date set for the flu shots is Friday, Oct. 24 beginning at 1:30 p.m. In addition to the flu shots, which cost $18 each, nurses from Flu Central will be offering shots to prevent pneumonia for $30 each. Rimbeck said there will be no charge for Medicare Part B cardholders. Those receiving immunizations must be aged 18 or older.
Children between the ages of nine and 18 are eligible for shots if their parent or guardian provides with the nurse with a doctor’s order.
“Fewer than half of the people who could benefit most from a flu vaccination will receive a shot this year,” said Mary Anne Hankins, director of Consumer and Public Affiars for The Penn Traffic Company, which operates 42 corporate BiLo supermarkets in Pennsylvania and 27 associated BiLo and Riverside stores.
“Flu vaccinations are very important for everyone. We encourage our customers to participate in this program, which is offered in all of our stores.”
Flu Central is an established, national provider of adult immunization programs since 1994.
Its clinics are staffed with trained and licensed medical personnel such as RNs, LVNs and CNAs or assistants.
Flu Central annually partners with retail pharmacies to facilitate “open public clinics” to serve local communities throughout the United States.
The Penn Traffic Company operates 211 supermarkets in Ohio, West Virigina, Pennsylvania, upstate New York, Vermont and New Hampshire under the Big Bear, Big Bear Plus, BiLo, P&C and Quality trade names.
Penn Traffic also operates a wholesale food distribution business serving 76 licensed franchises and 53 independent operators.
