After the resignation of Al Drayovitch as Tyrone Borough manager in February, the borough has been working without one. Now the borough has decided to advertise the position in newspapers in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg.
As recently as two weeks ago, Tyrone Mayor Pat Stoner said she had hoped to have a candidate to present to council for its approval during the regular working meeting on Monday night.
After executive sessions to interview the candidates, the council narrowed its search to two names.
In the September 24 edition of The Daily Herald, Stoner said, “We interviewed four candidates for the position. I believe that all four are well qualified and I believe that we have narrowed the four down to two finalists. We hope that we can have the new manager hired at the second council meeting in October.”
Since the interview, the focus of council has changed.
“We are trying to reach out for a larger pool,” said Stoner. “The council wasn’t completely satisfied with the two candidates. The council has been authorized to hire a manager but as an administrative action, we decided to review the applications we have and take new ones to broaden the pool.
The application deadline is October 20.
“We are going with a short window this time,” said Stoner. “I would love to see a decision in November and by December at the latest.”
Council did extend an offer to a candidate, but he accepted another position with a different community. The council has not named that candidate.
