The Tyrone junior high football team won their second straight game on Thursday, dominating Huntingdon 30-0 at Tyrone.
After a 0-2-1 start, the Little Eagles have now balanced their record at 2-2-1 with the big win over the Bearcats.
Tyler Gillman continued his spectacular running with a pair of touchdowns and rushed for 124 yards on 20 carries. Josh Bradley rushed six times for 47 yards, James Updike had 20 yards on seven carries and Justin Schopp scotted 13 yards on his only carry of the night.
Quarterback Don Conrad threw a pair of touchdown passes, one of 56 yards for the first score of the game to Josh Shaffer and then later in the second period for 32 yards to Tyler Golden to get the Golden Eagles going following a scoreless opening quarter. Conrad was three-of-six passing for 111 yards. Josh Shaffer caught three passes for 72 yards.
Gillman tallied once in each of the final two quarters, going in from 14 yards out in the third quarter and then again bulling in from a yard away in the fourth quarter.
Gillman rushed for two-point conversions on the first and fourth scores and Shaffer scored the two-point PAT on a pass from Conrad in the third quarter.
On defense, the Little Eagles held Huntingdon to 41 yards rushing and none passing. Shaffer recorded two quarterback sacks, Eddie Updike had one and Tyler Golden and Jason Reese shared one.
“The diffenrence in this game was our defense,” said Tyrone coach Dan Plummer. “They came together and played extremely well. They were the dominant factor. Our offensive line also dod a spectacular job, allowing Donnie Conrad to have time to throw the football. We haven’t had much time to be able to do much of that before, but today we scored our first two touchdowns on passes. Our entire team is really starting to come together and playing well. If we can continue to play football like this, we can be a good team.”
The Tyrone junior high football team hosts Lewistown next Thursday with the 7th and 8th grade game beginning at 4 p.m. and the ninth graders following at 5:30.
