The Bellwood-Antis girls volleyball put out the welcome mat for Juniata Valley on Thursday in a match that was moved up from 6 p.m. to 3:30 to accomodate moving the Blue Devils Homecoming football game against Mount Union to Thursday night to avoid Hurricane Isabel.
The Lady Blue Devils prove to be rude hosts, defeating the Juniata Valley girls in three straight games to continue their unbeaten streak to 6-0, while the Lady Hornets drop to 0-6.
B-A won easily 25-14, 25-3, 25-3 with sophomore Lauren Carter serving a school record 34 service points, including 10 aces.
Carter also had two kills and five digs. Lindsay Dearing scored 16 service points, including six aces and nine assists. Stephanie Hatch had five blocks and seven kills.
“I am very pleased with tonight’s performance,” said Bellwood-Antis volleyball coach Jennel Miller. “Juniata Valley is a very young team, but we kept the pace of the game at our own level and won with authority. Lauren Carter did an excellent job serving — breaking a school record with 34 points in a match. We’re looking forward to next week when we play Bishop Guilfoyle, one of our biggest rivals.”
The Lady Blue Devils junior varsity also remained undefeated (6-0) with a win in two straight games, 25-20 and 25-14. Haley Crider led the Jayvees with 15 service points, including four aces.
B-A travels to Bishop Guilfoyle for a real test on Tuesday next week at 6:30 p.m., then goes on the road again on Thursday against Claysburg-Kimmel for a 6 p.m. start.
