If you are a parent and often ask, how can I get through to my child, or what can I do to become a better parent, there might be some answers for you at a seminar titled Getting Through to Your 21st Century Child: Real Life Facts About Your Kids and Parenting Strategies You Can Actually Use.
A Parenting Talk, with special guest speaker Ron Taffel, PhD is scheduled for tomorrow for interested parents from 7-9 p.m. at the Blair County Convention Center.
The seminar is free to the public, and registration is required.
The event is sponsored by the Altoona Hospital and Home Nursing Agency Behavioral Health Services.
For those interested in attending the seminar, contact Patty Marine to register at 946-2706.
The seminar is especially important because it deals with the constant media and Internet exposure that today’s children receive on a daily basis. Dr. Taffel tries to tackle some of these issues.
According to Marine, approximately 340 people have already registered for the seminar. This is the first time that the Altoona Hospital and Home Nursing Agency Behavioral Health Services have offered this type of program to the public.
Dr. Taffel is scheduled to discuss numerous parenting issues, including nurturing self-esteem in children and adolescents and strategies for parents to cope with the unprecedented challenges and demands on family life.
Dr. Taffel has appeared on the Today Show, Dateline, 20/20 and a special Larry King Live Show to offer his advice.
He is also a noted author of critically acclaimed books, including Parenting By Heart, Why Parents Disagree, Nurturing Good Children Now, Second Family and Getting Through to Difficult Kids and Parents: Uncommon Sense for Child Professionals.
He has also been a contributing editor for McCall’s and Parents magazines for over 10 years.
After the seminar on Thursday, Dr. Taffel is scheduled to stay at the Altoona Hospital all day Friday for a workshop session. There he will educate nurses, counselors and other staff members on parenting and adolescent issues pertaining to today’s society.
