The Tyrone girls volleyball squad hosted Mount Union on Wednesday.
The Lady Eagles improved their record to 2-4 by defeating Mount Union three games to two. The Lady Eagles won the first game 25-17, then had to rally to win the fourth and fifth games 25-23 and 17-15 to win the five-game set. Only game one was settled by more than three points in a very closely contested match.
Ashley Roth led Tyrone with 17 service points, Stephanie Catich had seven kills, Katie Whitby had 18 assists and Emily Lloyd had 10 digs to lead the Lady Eagles.
“This was a big win for the girls because the match was tight the whole way through,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “They really fought hard the last two games. I was pleased with the way we passed the ball, but we have a bad habit of losing focus at key points in our matches. We need to overcome that in order to improve.”
Mount Union won the junior varsity contest two games to none, 27-25 and 25-14.
Tyrone travels to Lewistown on Monday for a 6:30 p.m. match.
