The Bellwood-Antis junior high football team opened their season on Thursday by snashing Southern Huntingdon 25-0.
In gaining revenge for a four-TD loss to the Rockets last year, the B-A junior high ran the ball down the Rockets throats behind a superlative effort from the Blue Devil line, which according to B-A coach Charlie Burch,”was the key to the win with their domination.”
“We put the clamps on Southern,” said Burch. “Our front line was the key. The game plan came together, we kicked off, held them, went down the field for a TD, kicked off and held them again and moved down the field for another score. We had the ball inside the 10-yard line twice and didn’t score in addition to the TDs.”
Devon Clapper, who rushed for over 100 yards and Josh Kleinfelter each scored twice for the Little Blue Devils. Kleinfelter scored in the first and fourth quarters on one yard smashes and Clapper, who barely saw the ball in the secpond half because of the score ran in 17 and 56 yard touchdowns. Evan Celmo booted te PAT following Kleinfelter’s second one-yard score.
B-A had several long runs in addition to the TDs. Kleinfelter set up a score with a 55-yard dash and Boe Latchford dashed 35 yards on a key third down and long call.
David Burns averted one Rocket scoring threat with a fourth-quarter interception and the B-A defense held Southern inside the BA-20 following a Blue Devil muff of a punt.
“WE are pleased to start the season like this,” said Burch. “We made a few mistakes we need to work on, but it was a good effort and we avenged a loss from last year in the process.”
