Robert “Buck” Whiteford was installed as the president of the Central District Volunteer Firemen’s Association during ceremonies held this month in Kane.
Whiteford is the treasurer of the Excelsior Volunteer Fire Company of Bellwood. As president, Whiteford and the Bellwood Volunteers will host the 2004 Convention of the Central District Volunteer Firemen’s Association at the end of Whiteford’s term.
Whiteford is a third-generation fierfighter and serves as treasurer of the Bellwood Company. He is employed by DelGrosso Foods of Tipton. He is also president of the Bellwood Farm Show and serves as captain of the DelGrosso Relay for Life team.
The Central District Volunteer Firemen’s Association provides health and welfare benefits for the firefighters as well as training and social events. The organization represents more than 200 fire companies and more than 4,000 firefighters in 23 Central Pennsylvania counties.
Thousands of firefighters will descend upon Bellwood Aug. 19 through Aug. 21, 2004. Activities for the week will include business meetings, contests, social events, two parades, a queen contest and a memorial service.
The Bellwood 2004 Committee has been meeting for months in preparation for the 2004 convention. Business or individuals interested in helping with preparations and festivities for the convention are urged to call 742-8706.
