Representatives Jerry Stern and Larry Sather were on hand when the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee and Senate collegues for a presentation of a $250,000 check to the Disabled American Veterans Association in support of its veterans’ transportation service.
The program was established in 1988 to provide Pennsylvania veterans transportation to the nine VA medical centers in the commonwealth. The veterans are picked up and dropped off at their homes, or at designated locations. All drivers, as well as everyone else affiliated with the program, are volunteers.
“We have an obligation to help those who’ve defended our freedom and our way of life,” said Stern. “They risked their lives for us, it’s the least we can do to help them receive the medical care they need.
“This important program will continue thanks in large part to this grant,” said Sather. “I am pleased that we are continuing our commitment to our disabled veterans, even in these lean times.”
