Tyrone’s Junior High Boys basketball team bolted to a 12 – 0 lead in the first four minutes of Tuesday’s game at the T.A.H.S. gym, only to see the Bald Eagle Area battle back to tie the score at 17-17 late in the second quarter.
Tyrone took a 20 – 17 lead to halftime, and increased that to 33 – 29 as the 4th quarter started. Bald Eagle Area closed the gap to two points, but were never able to overtake Tyrone.
“After the great game we played last Friday (at Huntingdon), we were due a letdown. This was easily the ugliest win we’ve had all year,” said Coach Domenick. “We’re going to be playing teams we have defeated in earlier meetings, and the kids have to realize their performance level must improve.”
Adam Corle and Adam Shaffer led the scoring with 17 and 12 points respectively. Jim Gillam added nine, all in the second half.
Tyrone improved to 11 – 2, and travels to Philipsburg-Osceola Friday for a rematch with the Mounties.
Eighth grade
Coach Jim Cushion’s eighth grade team started the afternoon off by defeating Bald Eagle Area’s eighth grade team, 17-10.
Tyler Golden led the scoring with six points, while Josh Bradley and Josh Shaffer dominated the boards with seven and five rebounds respectively. Tyrone is now 7 – 3.
