The Tyrone and Central swim teams split a pair of meets in the openers for both teams. The Tyrone boys (1-0) defeated Central’s Scarlet Dragon boys 87-35, while the Scarlet Dragon girls defeated the Tyrone Lady Eagles (0-1) by a 98-70 score.
Dave Collins (200 individual medley and 100 freestyle) and Eric Nulton (200 freestyle and 100 butterfly) were both double winners in individual events for the Golden Eagles boys squad, who also received a total of seven second-place finishes and three-thirds in 11 events.
Eric Nulton broke his own mark in the 100 butterfly, cutting .02 off his previous school record-best to lower the new record to 59.77.
The team of Brian Pearson, Trevor Harbst, Sam Kirk and Adam Smith won the 200 medley race for the Eagles, Evan Stover won the 50 freestyle, Brian Pearson won the 500 freestyle, Brian McManigal took the 100 backstroke and the team of Vinnie Fontana, Jon Verbickas, Colins and Nulton won the 200 free medley.
Katie Frye (100 individual medley, 500 freestyle) and Jeri Harper (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke) were double winners for the Tyrone girls in individual events. Emily Albright won the 200 freestyle, Angel Diehl took the 50 freestyle and Albright, Harper, Frye and Zoe Yaeton won the 400 free relay.
The swimming teams host Richland at the Tyrone High School pool next Wednesday at 6 p.m.
