The Tyrone golf team finished in a tie for second in Wednesday’s Central Pennsylvania High School Golf Association team championships at Scotch Valley Country Club in Hollidaysburg.
The Eagles carded a score of 235 to tie Hollidaysburg for the second spot behind CPHSGA champ State College who finished with a 233.
With the best three scores counting, Jimmy Gillam led Tyrone with 38-36 for an 18-hole total of 74, followed by Matt Germino (42-38) with an 80 and Thad Westley (44-37) with an 81. Derrick Soellner carded an 82 (42-42) as each team played four men, with the top three counting.
Bellwood-Antis finished in 11th place with 285. Brent Hughes (50-45), Chris Skibo (49-46) and Ryan Kenawell (51-44) recorded triplicate scores of 95 for the Blue Devils.
Robby Walizer of State College was the medalist for the tournament with a score of 69, followed by Tyrone’s Gillam with 74, Bishop Guilfoyle’s Tom Haught with a 75, Dennis DeGol of Hollidaysburg and Nick Covino of Altoona with 77s and David Ginter of Hollidaysburg and Bradley Shipman of Central Mountain with 78s.
