The Tyrone Girls Junior High Basketball team traveled to Wingate on Tuesday afternoon for a basketball game against Bald Eagle Area.
The Tyrone Lady Eagles defeated BEA improved their record to 3-8 with a 31-21 triumph over the BEA. Sharon Long led Tyrone with 11 points, six rebounds and five steals and Tiffany Bradford added eight points and six rebounds and Kayla Corle chipped in seven points.
The Lady Golden Eagles controlled the boards, outrebounding BEA 32-6.
“The girls did a really good job getting rebounds,” said Tyrone coach Kerry Naylor. “Sharon Long had a really big game and the other girls gave her lots of help.”
The Tyrone girls dropped the seventh/eighth grade game to the Bald Eagle Area girls by the low-scoring total of 17-13.
Stefani Bryan fronted the Lady Eagles with a triple-nickel showing-five points, five rebounds and five steals.
The younger girls hurt themselves with a poor shooting night, both at the foul line and from the floor. Tyrone went 0-7 from the line, including 0-6 in the first two minutes of the game and shot just six-for-32 from the floor.
BEA led at halftime by a 6-4 score so the point drought hit both teams.
“The girls had a lot of trouble getting started for some reason,” said coach Naylor. “We practice shooting for 35 minutes at every practice. I can’t explain what happened today.”
