The two local volleyball teams matched off at the Bellwood-Antis Senior High School gym on Tuesday night. Tyrone proved they are for real with a two-game sweep of Bellwood-Antis to extend their record to 8-2. B-A drops to 5-4 on the 2002 season.
The Lady Eagles notched identical 15-10, 15-10 wins for the victory.
Katie Whitby led Tyrone with 12 service points, Stephanie Catich added six points, Jeri Harper contributed five points and Lindsey Bailey and Brittany Wilson had three service points each. Lauren Haag had five kills and Amber DelBaggio had 12 assists.
“The girls were able to control the ball fairly well last night,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “That allowed us to take some swings and play a little more aggressively. We had some mental mistakes that should not be happening this far into the season. That is something that we will work on in practice tonight. Overall, I was pleased with the girls’ performance and glad to come away with the win.”
For Bellwood-Antis, Jamie Miller and Lindsay Dearing led the Lady Blue Devils with five service points, Dani Patton had four points and Elyse Schreckengost added three points.
The Bellwood-Antis Junior Varsity raised their record to 8-1 in the preliminary match defeating the Tyrone Jayvees 15-4, 15-3 in two straight games.
Lauren Carter led the way for the Lady Blue Devil Jayvees with seven service points, including five aces, while Ashley Roth had three service points for the Tyrone girls junior varsity.
