The Tyrone Girls Volleyball Team improved their 2002 season record to 6-1 with a win over Glendal on Tuesday evening at the Tyrone Area Elementary School gym.
The Lady Eagles defeated Glendale in two straight games 15-5, 15-5 in dominating fashion. Lindsey Bailey had eight service points to lead the Tyrone girls to the triumph. Amber DelBaggio had nine assists and Lauren Haag contributed six kills.
“We built nice leads in both games,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg, “but we had too many mental mistakes and allowed Glendale to get back into the match. We just seemed out of sync and were unable to put them away. We serned the ball fairly well in then second game, but we weren’t doing anything else to put the pressure on them. We can’t allow teams to hang around because, eventually, that will come back on us. We’ll take the win, but we have some things we need to continue to work on.”
The Tyrone junior varsity won their second match defeating he Glendale Jayvees in two tough games 15-11, 15-12.
Katie Whitby led tghe way for the Lady Eagle Jayvees with 15 service points.
“The junior varsity girls are improving each match,” said coach Eckberg. “Coach Vargo works them hard at practice and it’s beginning to pay off. It just takes time for the girls to learn the game. They seem a lot more comfortable on the court now.”
The girls are back in action tonight at Junaita Valley and then again on Thursday at Mount Union. Both matches are set for 6 p.m. start times.
