The Tyrone Lady Eagles tennis team made the long trip to Mill Hall to play Central Mountain on Monday and lost a closely contested central Counties League match 5-2.
The Lady Eagles were led by wins in both doubles matches and were in contention in two singles matches until Beth Nelson was injured and not able to continue in regulation time. Nelson was able to return to help in a double match later in the afternoon and will play on Wednesday.
“We played our best match of the season and came close to winning this match,” said Tyrone coach Charles Fitzgerald. “Beth Nelson and Becky Swann were playing very good tennis. Becky continues to surprise as a freshman as she held off her opponent for nearly 2 and 1/2 hours of play. Hilary, Missy and Emily all played better than their scores would indicate.”
Tyrone hosts Huntingdon on Wednesday at the Clay Avenue courts in another Central Counties League matchup.
