The Tyrone golf team traveled to the Nittany Valley Country Club on Thursday for a very successful trip.
The Golden Eagle linksters evened their season record at 3-3 with a pair of triumphs over Bellefonte and Huntingdon. Juniata Valley had just one golfer there and was not figured in for team scores.
Tyrone came in with the three lowest scores for the day to hand Huntingdon (4-1) their first loss of the season 317-323 and downed Bellefonte (1-6) 317-353.
Thad Westley was the medalist for the meet with 40-38 nines for a total of 78, closely followed by teammates Jimmy Gillam (41-38) and Brandon Hribik (38-41), who were both just one shot back with 79s.
Derrick Soellner carded 40-41 for an 81 total and Matt Germino had an 82 on nines of 43-39 as the Eagles dominated the tri-match. While only the top four scores count towards the team total, Tyrone put five of the top seven scores for the day. Only Huntingdon’s Brent Smith with 40-41 for 81 and Bearcat teammate Josh Williams with 43-39 for a total of 82 broke the Eagles’ momentum.
Juniata Valley’s one representative, Tony Price shot an 83 on nines of 42-41. Bellefonte’s top shooter was Tim Kessling with 43-43 for an 86 total.
