Central Counties Tennis League’s leading team Hollidaysburg brought an undefeated record to the Clay Avenue courts on Wednesday afternoon and improved their mark to 5-0 with a 7-0 victory over the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Golden Tigers put on a fairly dominating performance in winning all five singles matches, the two doubles matches and even won an exhibition doubles match as well.
S. Karcher defeated Hilary McNelis 8-1, K. Caporusio downed Missy Stager 8-2, K. Mextorf defeated Emily Fitzgerald 8-2, C. Rawlings decisioned Beth Nelson 8-4 and K. Verbish decisioned freshman Becky Swann 8-5.
In doubles E. Allen and M. Engle defeated Fitzgerald and Nelson 8-1 and B. Karcher and Caporusio defeated McNelis and Stager 8-1.
In exhibition, All and Engle decisioned Launa Schleiden and Monica Brush 6-1.
“The whole team played well today, really,” said Tyrone tennis coach Charles Fitzgerald. “I was pleased with the play of Hilary McNelis at Number one because she is improving match by match against the district’s best players. I give her a lot of credit for not losing her focus or discipline. Becky Swann was our leader today, continuing to win many games against tough opponents.”
